Egg Plant in the veggie patch

This beach house, an hour from Sydney, is the perfect weekender and the owners use it on a regular basis as a getaway. The grand plan is to turn the garden into the perfect entertaining garden for themselves and their guests however the construction process is being staged to spread the costs.

In time a large deck will be built off the back of the house to give the space an outdoor lounge area dressed with comfortable furniture and pots, there will be an orchard for fruit trees and a large vegetable patch to supplement their weekend feasts (as well as a lawn for their dogs). The initial build starts in the far corner of the garden and accommodates the dining area, protected from the sun by the mature Sydney red Gum.

The dining area is sunken into the ground with large stone boulders and surrounded by a green wall and tropical resort style planting. The gabion and stone table are a real statement piece and catch the eye from the back door of the house. The palette of materials to be used is all natural; timber, stone, pebbles and recycled clay bricks to juxtapose with the galvanised steel wire mesh giving this rustic garden a modern feel.
